TIMBERWeb to showcase the new Public to Private eTrader system at LIGNA 2003

Just what is Trading Online and how far does it go?

TIMBERWeb explains the new eTrader4

The TIMBERWeb eTrader V4.0 recognises long standing traditional trading methods and will be on show at LIGNA 2003 and personal demonstrations will be possible by TIMBERWeb staff.

Trading in timber and lumber online is a wide subject area and means different things to different people. Firstly we need to define the term ‘trading’. Does this simply mean ‘networking’ or ‘prospecting for business’ with putting up demand and supply, as with many marketplace sites or does it mean a lot more ? In our view, it is a lot more than this, eTrading means the making of an agreement online, which at the very least is ‘subject to normal traditional contracts’.

It should mean however (taking this one step further), a legally binding eContract, just like an electronic ticket is a contract between you and an airline. TIMBERWeb’s new eTrader system permits this based on the widely adopted contractual steps of ‘Offer’ (together with counter Offer) and ‘Acceptance’

Of course the trading process doesn’t end there, tracking of the production and fulfilment status of the contract and financing and eventual payment could also be added to the process? This however requires integration of the eTrader with practically all sellers in the marketplace, a nice prospect but unlikely to become reality in the short term.

Reaching the agreement and contractual stage online is still difficult for many businesses because of ‘in-house’ delegated authority and traditional historical practices varying within each business. However this is not difficult to achieve and requires no integration of systems and contracts and the record of negotiations to reach agreement can be downloaded so no reliance is placed upon the eMarket.

So how does TIMBERWeb’s system work?
