All the finalists are being invited to an awards ceremony in London on November 30th, when the winners will be announced.
There will be category prize-winners and an overall winner who will be awarded the prestigious title of the "FT Business Web Site of 1998".
TIMBERWeb is one of seven sites in the small and medium-sized enterprises category. The other six sites are EMAP - Bargain Holidays, Ministry of Sound, PhotoDisc Europe Ltd, Road Tech Computer Systems Ltd, Seanet Ltd, and Adhoc Publishing Ltd.
The objective of the competition is to recognise excellent business use of the World Wide Web. To reward and promote such good use, winners will be awarded with a trophy and a certificate in which the company's success is acknowledged by the Financial Times and UUNET. There will also be an electronic logo for inclusion on winning web sites.
TIMBERWeb, which was launched early last year, serves the timber industry with a full range of features, has 330 business card subscribers and more than 3,500 businesses in its database. The site has visitors from more than 60 countries.
The special features of the site include a message board which is used regularly by businesses over the world, a weekly conference, a currency page which is constantly updated, and a Newsdesk giving not only timber industry news but also a full service of general news and sport.
